As I Lay Dying

William Faulkner

Kehret, Peg. Terror at the Zoo. Pocket Books. New York, New York. 1997.

The book Terror the Zoo is one of Peg Kehret's best. Although it is not based on a true story, it is very easy to get in to and is constantly grabbing your attention. Peg sets the stage by filling the readers mind with a mix of science fiction and monsters. This thriller book is almost impossible to put down once you have picked it up and opened it.

The book Terror at the Zoo is about a girl, Jane, a twelve year old, who accidentally falls asleep in the zoo during a field trip.

After walking around for almost an hour looking for the bathroom, Jane spots a monkey. Monkeys are Jane's favorite animal, so she decides to go and sit near it. After spotting no one around, Jane jumps the fence and starts feeding it the banana she had in her bag. Jane is very tired from her walk. It is not long at all before she falls asleep.

Once Jane wakes up, it is almost midnight. She notices that no one is around her; it is just her and the animals. As she makes her way to the fence, she hears a screeching sound. She turns around and sees the monkey she was talking to earlier, only this time, he was five times the size and was made of metal with red eyes! Jane screamed as loud as she could and made a run for the fence. Then, out of nowhere, a robot rabbit jumped out in front of her, and this rabbit was now the size of a lion! Jane runs.....

Peg Kehret does an amazing job at grabbing the reader's attention right from the start. Terror at the Zoo keeps you wondering. Although the story is not hard to follow, it is a fun book for readers of all ages because it constantly keeps you in suspense!

4 out of 5 stars.
