The House of the Seven Gables

Nathaniel Hawthorne

Hawthorne, Nathaniel. The House of the Seven Gables. The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. Plesantville, N.Y./Montreal. 1985.

The House of the Seven Gables is a moderate story of a friendship that turns into murder. This story was made in 1985, for people who enjoy love and murder all in one.

The story of The House of the Seven Gables is about a rather large house that the Gables live in. The Gables are a family of seven midgets. As the story progresses you learn that these midgets aren't regular midgets. There is Bob, who happens to be the oldest and the leader. Marry is Bob's wife and is the queen. Jeff, and Jerid are the guards they are twins and the youngest. Then there is Jimmy, he is the cocky one that thinks he can beat anyone up and is waiting for Bob to promote him to a guard. Last but not least, there is Beth and Troy. They are a couple that are waiting to take over as the leader and the queen.

At the beginning of the story, Nathaniel Hawthorne makes you think that this is just going to be another love story, but as you start to get into the story you realize that this is no ordinary tale of love. It happens to be about the Gables killing their high school class mates that have made fun of them in the past.

The family in this book is very disturbing. They have a nice house, no friends, and are only seen at night and that is just by the people they are about to murder. But what they don't know is that the people they have been killing are leaving messages for their friends.

In the end you will find out that the friends make a plan to break into the house at night, and wait for the midgets to come back to kill them all. There was a total of seven friends that killed the seven midgets. They are now living in the house.

I think everybody should read The House of the Seven Gables because it shows how friends become the worst of enemies.

4 out of 5 stars.
