In reading The Wayward Bus you may experience the many up and down hill battles of love. This book is about a girl named Nancy, who moved to Jersey in her college years hoping to begin the many journeys of her life. Much to her surprise she found the love of her life along the way. She was soon engaged to her wonderful love, Andy. They wrote eachother love notes everyday. They were planning there entire lives together, but Andy was sent over seas to fight in World War II. They planned to marry upon his arrival. It was no more then three months after Andy left for over seas when Nancy got a terrifying letter. Andy had died in the line of duty. Her life shattered to pieces as all her money and fundings went into his funeral. She found herself working at a down town diner instead, just so she had enough money to pay the rent. Nancy was at her wits end. She began drinking every weekend- which soon turned into every morning and all through the night. Losing control, Nancy became dependent on every sip of alcohol. She was fading away without anyone even caring. Nancy must start forgetting her past or become the past. The choice lies in her hands. John Steinbeck does an amazing job of putting detail and brilliance into this story. This book is amazing and thrilling with all of its heart throbbing emotions.
